The ONC 2014 Edition criteria support both Stage 1 and 2 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

1/12/2012 - MIN-NS founded to create local HIE Recognizing the interdependence of their facilities and patients, Skagit Valley Hospital, Island Hospital and United General Hospital sought a cost effective way to share information and provide comprehensive care to patients in their communities. In 2008, hospital leadership decided to pursue a Health Information Exchange (HIE), rather than point-to-point integration. Medical Information Network-North Sound (MIN-NS) was founded to develop an affordable entry point for all facilities and practices wanting to share and benefit from information in the hospitals systems. MIN-NS leadership evaluated potential HIE vendors for the right balance of functionality and connectivity. Two rounds of proposals and 30 candidates led the team to contract with Bellevue-based HIE provider HealthUnity.

Skagit County: Ahead of the curve in Health Information Technology
1/13/2011 - Through the collaborative efforts of its three hospitals, Skagit Valley Hospital, United General Hospital and Island Hospital, the greater Skagit County region will have its own Health Information Exchange (HIE), one that is designed to evolve and, eventually, to connect with other exchanges. The goal is to have electronic patient records move with the patient when he or she is referred for specialist care.

Provider-to-provider HIT delivers high value at low cost
7/2/2009 - St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Md., has been exchanging patient information with Erickson Health Medical Group since June 2007, and began a three-hospital health information exchange with LifeBridge Health in March 2009. HealthUnity offers a services model, which includes monitoring the network, St. Agnes Hospital and Erickson Health Medical Group were able to split the upfront costs and yearly license fees. The HIE is proving that a low-cost provider-to-provider communication system built on Microsoft technology can deliver high value without the technology integration issues that challenge many HIEs and RHIOs.

HIE Pilot Connects Different Information Technologies from Two Independent Provider Organizations
6/15/2009 - LifeBridge Health has begun an electronic exchange of health information between its two hospitals, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Northwest Hospital, and Saint Agnes Hospital, a community hospital. The hospitals have an overlapping service area but use different EMR systems. This health information exchange (HIE) is the first example of a hospital-to-hospital exchange in Maryland. The exchange allows for the standards-based exchange of clinical summaries that were based upon the Continuity of Care Document (CCD). The solution is entirely built on Bellevue, Washington-based HealthUnity’s HIE software and Microsoft’s .NET platform and servers.
