HealthUnity Corporation, a leading provider of award winning, standards-based Health Information Exchange (HIE) technology will demonstrate real-time data exchange between its imaging data solution and Microsoft HealthVault. The new technology from HealthUnity was built on the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) standards and will better enable patients and providers to access imaging data electronically, through an individual's Microsoft HealthVault account. The demonstration can be viewed at the IHE Image Sharing Demonstration at the annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference, November 29 - December 4, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Md., has been exchanging patient information with Erickson Health Medical Group since June 2007, and began a three-hospital health information exchange with LifeBridge Health in March 2009. HealthUnity offers a services model, which includes monitoring the network, St. Agnes Hospital and Erickson Health Medical Group were able to split the upfront costs and yearly license fees. The HIE is proving that a low-cost provider-to-provider communication system built on Microsoft technology can deliver high value without the technology integration issues that challenge many HIEs and RHIOs.


HIE Pilot Connects Different Information Technologies from Two Independent Provider Organizations

LifeBridge Health has begun an electronic exchange of health information between its two hospitals, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Northwest Hospital, and Saint Agnes Hospital, a community hospital. The hospitals have an overlapping service area but use different EMR systems. This health information exchange (HIE) is the first example of a hospital-to-hospital exchange in Maryland. The exchange allows for the standards-based exchange of clinical summaries that were based upon the Continuity of Care Document (CCD). The solution is entirely built on Bellevue, Washington-based HealthUnity’s HIE software and Microsoft’s .NET platform and servers.
